Cine film
Standard 8mm, Super 8, 9.5mm and 16mm reels — with or without sound — plus Polaroid Polavision cassettes. Each reel is cleaned, repaired if needed, then scanned frame-by-frame for crisp HD output.

How we do it
A specialist lab. A personal driver. Sixteen years of trust.
Cine and video transfer needs specialist equipment — frame-by-frame HD scanners, vintage tape decks, audio restoration software — that no high-street shop can justify on its own. So we work with a long-standing UK partner lab who do nothing but this.
What makes the difference: their own driver collects every order in person, fortnightly, from our shop. Nothing is risked to the post or third-party couriers. Your one-of-one originals travel by hand, get returned by hand, and we’re your single point of contact throughout.

Sound: films with a sound stripe carry a 50% surcharge. Running times: a 50ft reel of 8mm plays for about 3½–4 minutes; 50ft of 9.5mm or 16mm plays for about 2 minutes. Polaroid Polavision cassettes (about 2.5 minutes each) are £20 each, minimum charge £40 — the casing has to be opened to reach the film, and picture quality tends to be low.

Download and USB prices include the £5 download or £15 USB charge (applied once per order). If DVDs are wanted as well as a download or USB, each tape is transferred to its own DVD at £10 per tape. Additional USB copies £15 each. Additional DVD copies £6 each. Foreign format conversions (USA/UK) +£15. Each DVD becomes a separate MP4 file. If your DVDs were themselves made from video tape or cine film, we can give a higher-quality result from the original media.

Records are £5 each before delivery: download +£5, USB +£15, audio CD +£10. Each cassette or reel is delivered as a separate MP3 file, and an audio CD holds up to 79 minutes. Additional disc copies £6 each. Additional USB copies £15 each.
Slides, photos & negatives
Cleaned and scanned at high resolution, with filters to balance colour, contrast and brightness. Supplied as JPEG files, or as a slideshow DVD. Minimum charge £20 per order.

Delivery for scans is added to the price: download +£5, USB +£15, DVD +£10. A slideshow DVD shows each image for about 10 seconds with a fade, and comes with a second disc of your JPEG scans. Extra USB copies £15, extra DVD copies £6. Slideshow add-ons: background music £10, personal titles £5 each (up to 15 words). Slides and negatives are scanned at 4000 dpi; photos at 600–1200 dpi depending on size.

Common questions
Before you bring it in.
How long does it take?
The partner lab’s driver collects from us every fortnight, and most orders come back to us the following week. So plan for around 2–3 weeks from drop-off to ready-for-collection — we’ll give you a firmer date when you bring everything in.
Should I choose download, USB or DVD?
MP4 is the better choice for most people now — it plays on smart TVs, laptops and phones, and can be uploaded to cloud storage or shared easily. A download is the cheapest option; a USB drive gives you something physical to keep. DVDs are still available if you have a preferred player, but they’re a fading format. We’ll happily talk it through with you.
How do downloads work?
When you collect your order you’ll be given a password for your files. They stay available to download for 60 days, so save them to your family storage device and/or cloud storage as soon as you can.
How do I keep my files safe?
Keep more than one copy: put your files on cloud storage or a hard drive as well as the USB drive we supply. If you have DVDs made for you, we’d suggest copying them every 10 years or so to keep them safe — we can duplicate discs for you.
My cine film has sound — can you transfer that too?
Yes. Cine film with sound has either a brown magnetic stripe along the edge, or an optical waveform (usually on 16mm film) — both can be transferred. There’s a 50% surcharge on the reel price for films with a sound stripe.
Will I get my originals back?
Always. Every reel, tape, slide and record comes back to you with your finished digital files. Nothing is kept, nothing is destroyed. The one exception is Polaroid Polavision cassettes, which have to be opened to reach the film.
How should I pack things for drop-off?
A sturdy bag or box is fine. If you want slides or tapes transferred in a specific numbered order, please number each item individually — numbered trays or carousels alone aren’t enough, since everything gets handled out of the original tray during transfer. Underline numbers like 6 and 9 so it’s clear which way up they go. Photographs should be loose (not in albums) and numbered in pencil, not pen or felt tip, as the ink can mark the photo underneath.
What if my tape is broken or mouldy?
Worth bringing in. Snapped tapes, broken cases, and even mouldy tapes can often be repaired and transferred successfully — tape repair is £15, then the usual transfer pricing applies. We don’t recommend playing spliced tapes in your own machine; let us repair it first.
